The things we've been told as children are pretty hilarious. Some of them are just downright nonsensical. Growing up, I found it pretty incredible that adults could be so full of such bullshit. And what’s even more unnerving is the fact that they honestly believe in instilling these beliefs in the next generation.
From the very beginning, I've been taught to believe that I’m special. You’re special. You’re unique. You’re as unique as a snowflake. Well there are, there have been and there will be gazillions of snowflakes in this world. So how exactly am I “unique” like a snowflake? And the irony is that snowflakes are the perfect metaphor for human beings. Just not in the way they are being used right now. They are flaky, momentary, there are billions of them around and each year more and more keeps coming! Just like humans!
I've been told that I’m destined to do great things. Wonderful things. That I should stand out. Think out of the box. Do things differently. Hell no! I’m destined to do one thing and one thing only. To live in a perpetual state of greed. Of unrest. Of dissatisfaction. Isn't that the reason why I do the things I do? Every single thing is done to fulfill my never ending wants. Except for eating and breathing though. Those are non-optional. Why do I read and watch and listen to stuff? Because I want more information. I want an information avalanche. And why? So that I can get a job. Why is that? So that I can get money!
Yes. Money! I've come across people saying money isn't everything. I’m sorry but I just can’t wrap my head around that thought. Money is everything. Sure, that may not have been the case in the beginning when the cosmic blunder of human evolution happened. But ever since its introduction, money has been everything. The world’s economy is what sustains the ever growing population. And this economy is built upon money. And it will be remain that way unless an apocalypse happens and at least three quarters of human population gets wiped out.
Oh how I wish that would happen! How I wish!
Then comes the invisible man up in the sky. It’s always a man, mind you. In none of the major religions is God referred to with the female pronoun. Yes, there are deities and demi-gods and semi-gods which are female. But the omnipotent and the omniscient, the one true god, always comes with a dick.
Now, we have been told a lot of things about this invisible man. I have to quote George Carlin here, who has sort of outlined some of that bullshit in a pretty decent way.
“……Religion has actually convinced people that there's an invisible man living in the sky who watches everything you do, every minute of every day. And the invisible man has a special list of ten things he does not want you to do. And if you do any of these ten things, he has a special place, full of fire and smoke and burning and torture and anguish, where he will send you to live and suffer and burn and choke and scream and cry forever and ever 'til the end of time!
But He loves you. He loves you, and He needs money! He always needs money! He's all-powerful, all-perfect, all-knowing, and all-wise, somehow just can't handle money! Religion takes in billions of dollars, they pay no taxes, and they always need a little more. Now, you talk about a good bullshit story. Holy Shit!....... ”
And finally, there’s the glorification of life. Every human life is important. Suicide is a sin. Life is the greatest gift that has been given to you. Well, bull-fuckin’-shit! Life is an accident. It’s the result of people being stupid and broken condoms. The reason for the glorification of life is that most people live in a constant state of denial. They just don’t want to admit that their life is worthless. That their only destiny is to become worm fodder and daffodil fertilizer. And it is out of this denial that all the other bullshit germinate.
The honourable thing for human beings to do will be to stop reproducing and walk hand in hand into extinction. Because we've filled ourselves with so much bullshit and denial that we are fucked up beyond repair.
Then why do I get out of bed every morning you ask?
I simply lack the constitution for suicide.
